Gluten Free Beef Stroganoff is a delicious homemade blue plate special you’ll be proud to serve to your loved ones.

Dinner ideas can be challenge, especially for folks on a gluten-free diet and easy dinner recipes are a requirement for work nights. There is a reason cooks turn to ground beef recipes first; they’re quick and simple.

While ground beef recipes abound, pasta remains a family favorite. These two basic ingredients make a great culinary palette.  Raid the pantry and the spice cabinet; toss in a few things from the refrigerator . . . 

. . . before you know it, you've come up with a fun new recipe (or a twist on an old favorite) that's fast and tasty.   That's what I did with this recipe.

When I discovered the Beef Stroganoff seasoning packets I purchased from the store contained gluten, I worked to come up with the right flavor combination to replicate our favorite ground beef based weeknight staple.

After much experimenting, I threw out the white wine, tomato paste, wheat flour and cayenne pepper, along with other ingredients imparting "complex flavor".

Believe it or not, my family preferred the pure, simple flavor from the essential fixings:  ground beef, salt, pepper, onion, garlic, mushrooms and sour cream.

Together, these ingredients make a winning combination of fantastic flavor!

Add steamed broccoli, and a tossed salad of Romaine lettuce, sliced tomato and watercress to make an elegant meal.


Gluten Free Beef Stroganoff

Time:  about 30 minutes

Servings:  4

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups sour cream
  • 8 ounces gluten-free pasta
  • fresh parsley

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, heat water to boiling.  
  • Place lean ground beef in a Dutch oven.
  • Coarsely chop mushrooms.
  • Place chopped mushrooms on top of ground beef.  
  • Chop onion.
  • Place chopped onion on top of ground beef.
  • Add gluten-free pasta to boiling water.
  • Cook gluten-free pasta according to package directions.
  • Over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef mixture.
  • Add garlic, salt, and black pepper; cook for 30 seconds.
  • Off-heat, stir in sour cream.
  • Drain gluten-free pasta.
  • Garnish with a few sprigs of fresh parsley.
  • Serve over gluten-free pasta.
