Happy Gluten Free Valentines Day!

Dear Friends,

One of the most romantic destinations in the world is Paris, France. Every February 14th, the French celebrate “La Saint-Valentin”, a feast of couples in love.

Love. In France they call it, “amour”.

Romance is steeped in long history and profound symbolism.

Imagine receiving scented missives filled with poetry and declarations of undying love from a beau or admirer.

Pilgrimage to “le village des amoureux”, the village of love named after Saint Valentine, himself, St-Valentin, a tiny village in the countryside of Indre, where annual festivities celebrate this special day and couples renew their marriage vows.

“Le language des fleurs” (the language of flowers) speaks volumes, especially roses on St. Valentine’s Day:

White = Chaste Love
Pink = Fondness
Red = Passionate Love
Yellow = Infidelity (a color rarely gifted in France)

Bouquets of these heady perfumed beauties always contain an odd number of blooms, for luck.

Among the charming tokens of love given, are liquor-filled bittersweet “chocolats”, decadently rich.

In France, cuisine is deeply tied to celebrations of any sort. For them dining is an art, always a lovely setting you can easily recreate in your own home.

Mimic the elegant simplicity. Start with a quality white table linen and include coordinating cloth napkins. Add champagne flutes, classic tableware and cutlery appropriate for each course you serve.

Create a romantic ambiance; place a bouquet of fragrant roses in a simple vase for the centerpiece and scatter several small unscented candles around the table. Dim the lights and turn on soft French music.

Then, serve a French inspired menu to complete your romantic fête.

Savor every sensational bite. Draw out the divine experience. Feed your fervor for passion and romance.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
