Goode Russian Chicken

Goode Russian Chicken

Goode Russian Chicken

“Russian Chicken is an American originated recipe developed by the makers of Wish-Bone Red Russian Dressing.

Many vintage cookbooks feature delicious quick and easy recipes featuring processed food products, such as Red Russian Dressing. This bottled salad dressing disappeared from grocery store shelves in the United States near the turn of the 21st century.

Like many ready-made ingredients, these eventually became pantry staples, essential ingredients in what now are historic recipes that have been passed down through the generations.

Over time, creative cooks shared their homemade versions of the bottled, canned, frozen and packaged food product ingredients no longer available for purchase.

The origins of many homemade versions so proper credit may be cited can be difficult to find, if found at all. In fact, some homemade recipe versions of lost products become so main-stream they are freely published without copyright or creative commons credit.

After much research, Red Russian Dressing seems to be one of those obscure homemade recipe versions."

I Can't Wait to Try Your Recipe!
by: Cat McMahon

Dear Michelle,

Thank you so much for sharing your Mom’s recipe, a gluten-free version of one of America’s well-loved family favorites.

This is not a dish I grew up with. I hate to admit it, but until you submitted it to, I didn’t even know such a recipe existed!

So, I did a bit of research to learn more about Russian Chicken recipes. There are versions that add a bit of apricot jam to their recipes and others use a different Russian Salad Dressing similar to what Americans know as Thousand Island Salad Dressing . . . all very interesting.

I can’t wait to try your recipe! I know I’ll love it and I hope my family does, too!

Happy noshing,
