Hot Spiced Cider Recipe--Key to Tasty Ice Breakers


You will get toasty warm to your toes when you sip a mug of this gotta-have Hot Spiced Cider recipe!

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Yield: one 8 ounce serving

Ingredients:
- 1 cup apple cider
- 3 whole allspice berries
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- Dash grated nutmeg

Instructions:
1. Combine all ingredients in a small sauce pan.
2. Heat just until cider comes to a simmer.
3. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
4. Remove whole spices, reserving cinnamon stick.
5. Serve cider in a mug and garnish with reserved cinnamon stick.

Variations

Crowd-sized Hot Spiced Cider Recipe

Yield:  8 to 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 8 cups (2 liters) apple cider
  • 24 whole allspice berries
  • 24 whole cloves
  • 3 large cinnamon sticks
  • 1 whole nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare as directed in key recipe.
  2. Remove whole spices, reserving cinnamon sticks.
  3. Slice reserved cinnamon sticks into 8 long pieces.
  4. Serve cider in mugs and garnish with reserved cinnamon stick slices.


Hot Spiced Blueberry Cider

  1. Prepare as directed in Crowd-sized Hot Spiced Cider recipe.
  2. Remove whole spices, reserving cinnamon sticks.
  3. Stir in 1/3 cup orange juice and 1 tablespoon Homemade Vanilla Extract.
  4. Slice reserved cinnamon sticks into 8 long pieces.
  5. Serve cider in mugs.
  6. Garnish with reserved cinnamon stick slices and fresh orange slices.


Hot Spiced Cider Toddy

  1. Prepare as directed in key recipe.
  2. To bottom of mug add 2 teaspoons honey, 2 teaspoons lemon juice and 2 tablespoons gluten-free bourbon, scotch or whiskey.
  3. Serve cider in mugs with rims dipped in cinnamon sugar.
  4. Garnish with one slice each of unpeeled apple and lemon.



Hot Spiced Buttered Rum Cider

  1. Add 1 teaspoon brown sugar and 1 teaspoon butter.
  2. Prepare as directed in key recipe.
  3. To bottom of mug add 2 tablespoons gluten-free white rum.
  4. Pour hot cider over rum.
  5. Garnish with reserved cinnamon stick and a sprinkling of grated nutmeg.


Hot Spiced Cranberry Cider Punch

Yield:  8 to 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (1 liter) apple cider
  • 4 cups (1 liter) cranberry juice
  • 1/4 (60 ml) cup brown sugar (optional)
  • 24 whole allspice berries
  • 24 whole cloves
  • 3 large cinnamon sticks
  • 1 whole nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare and serve as directed in Crowd-sized Hot Spiced Cider recipe.


Metric Measurements

Note:  use volume-based imperial/metric measuring spoons and dry measuring cups marked in milliliters; see Kitchen Equipment and Tools.

  4. Serve with a twist of orange peel inside each mug.
  5. Garnish with orange slices.


Slow Cookery

Yield:  8 to 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 8 cups (2 liters) apple cider
  • 24 whole allspice berries
  • 24 whole cloves
  • 3 large cinnamon sticks
  • 1 whole nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a slow cooker crock, combine all ingredients.
  2. Cover and simmer on Low for 2 hours to 4 hours, or to taste.
  3. Remove whole spices, reserving cinnamon sticks.
  4. Slice reserved cinnamon sticks into 8 long pieces.
  5. Serve cider in mugs and garnish with reserved cinnamon stick slices.


Wassail

  1. Add 1/2 cup brown sugar.
  2. Prepare as directed in Mulled Cider recipe.
  3. Remove whole spices.
  4. Serve with clove-studded orange slices floating on hot cider in each mug.
