Scalloped Potatoes Recipe--Key to Delicious Gluten Free Potato Casseroles


You will LOVE this oldie, but goldie; the BEST scalloped potatoes recipe ever!

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients:
- 6 medium raw potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
- 3 tablespoons White Gluten Free Flour Blend
- salt
- black pepper
- butter, chilled
- 2 cups milk (or milk substitute)

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Arrange 1/3 of potato slices into bottom of a 2 quart casserole dish.
3. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and then dot with butter.
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 with two more layers for a total of three layers.
5. Pour milk over top, barely covering potatoes.
6. Bake uncovered for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender, sauce is bubbling and the top is just starting to turn golden brown.
7. Remove from oven and let set up for 10 minutes before serving.

Variations

Cinnamon Apple Scalloped Sweet Potatoes

  1. Omit potatoes
  2. Add 3 medium sweet potatoes (or yams), peeled and sliced thin, and 3 large apples, peeled and sliced thin.
  3. Arrange 1/3 of sweet potato slices into bottom of a 2 quart casserole dish.
  4. Arrange 1/3 of apple slices on top of sweet potato layer.
  5. Sprinkle with salt, ground cinnamon, dried grated lemon rind, and then dot with butter.
  6. Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 with two more layers for a total of three layers.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes or until sweet potatoes and apples are tender.
  8. Brown top under broiler.


Creamy Scalloped Potatoes

  1. Omit milk.
  2. Prepare ingredients and layer as directed in key recipe.
  3. Pour 2 cups light cream or heavy whipping cream over top, barely covering potatoes.
  4. Bake as directed in key recipe.


Harwichport Potatoes

  1. Prepare as directed in Scalloped Potatoes with Cheese.
  2. Stir in 1 medium onion, grated and 3 pimentos, julienne.
  3. Bake as directed in key recipe.


Herbed Scalloped Potatoes

  2. Arrange 1/3 of potato slices into bottom of a 2 quart casserole dish.
  3. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and herbs of your choice (fresh minced dillweed, dried dillweed, dill seed, caraway seed or celery seed), and then dot with butter.

  5. Pour milk over top, barely covering potatoes.

Italian Style Scalloped Potatoes

  1. Omit 3 potatoes.
  2. Add 1 large thinly sliced fresh tomato, 1 large thinly sliced yellow or orange bell pepper and 1 medium thinly sliced yellow onion.
  3. Arrange 1/3 of potato slices into bottom of a 2 quart casserole dish.
  4. Arrange 1/3 of sliced vegetables on top of potato layer.
  5. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, a dash of garlic powder and a pinch of dried basil, and then dot with butter.
  6. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 with two more layers for a total of three layers.
  7. Pour milk over top, barely covering potatoes and vegetables.
  8. Bake as directed in key recipe.

  2. Slice 6 frankfurters (franks, hot dogs, link sausages, wieners or wienerwursts) into 1/4 inch pieces.
  3. Arrange 1/3 of potato slices into bottom of a 2 quart casserole dish.

  5. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and then dot with butter.

  5. In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup pineapple juice and 2 tablespoons dark molasses.
  6. Pour pineapple juice mixture over top of sweet potatoes.
  7. Garnish top with canned pineapple slices.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes or until sweet potatoes are tender.
  9. Brown top under broiler.
